One of the most compelling reasons to watch old Hollywood films is the abundance of films that have mostly slipped through the cracks. These could be excessive films that never received much serious attention or films that barely had enough money to finish production. In this blog, we’ve compiled a list of the top ten Old Hollywood films of all time.
Top 10 Old Hollywood movies
1- Singing in the Rain (1952)
If you have a brief interest in the history of Hollywood, Singing in the Rain is for you. It is regarded as one of the top ten classic Hollywood films. It’s a film about making films, set at the dawn of the silent film era, when ‘talking pictures’ upended the industry and entertainers needed to, you know, start talking.
It is presumably a definitive film melodic, with tunes you’ll recognise even if you’ve never seen the film, starring Gene Kelly, Debbie Reynolds, and Donald O’Connor. There’s sentiment, amazing dance numbers, fantastic parody, and some OTT ’20s design to gawk at even if singing (in the rain or otherwise) isn’t your thing. Turn on for feel-good vibes and old-school Hollywood film enchantment. It is one of the top ten Old Hollywood films to watch in 2022. Free Watch the Top 10 Old Hollywood movies Now on Yesmovies app.
2- Breakfast at Tiffany’s (1961)
Breakfast at Tiffany’s, the film that sent 1,000 dark dresses, could it get any chicer? No, you better believe it. Have you ever seen it? How are things going in your life? Hurry to NowTv and appreciate Audrey Hepburn’s most famous role, the timeless looks that have endured from 1961 to Big Little Lies, and a tragic and brilliant story.
3- Dizziness (1958)
Dizziness is exemplary film eminence, presumably one of Alfred Hitchcock’s most well-known films – and consistently breaking Best Movie records. It is one of the top ten Old Hollywood films to see in 2022.
This old spine chiller is loaded with tension, unexpected developments, and transcendent performances from James Stewart, the ‘Tom Hanks of the 1950s,’ playing acrophobic in love with terrible ice-sovereign magnificence Kim Novak.
4- Casablanca(1942)
If you haven’t heard of Casablanca, you have most likely been living on the moon. If you’ve seen it, you may believe you have because so many of its references have permeated mainstream society – the melody, well-known lines, and that popular final scene.
In any case, Casablanca is well worth watching; so go to Amazon Prime right now and enjoy the old-fashioned dramatization, significantly complementing 1940s lighting (truly, where would I be able to get a long-lasting spotlight like that?) and two of Hollywood’s most prominent stars, Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman, express their dismay at the state of the world.
5- North by Northwest (1959)
This is a particularly outstanding Hitchcock thrill ride; you’ve probably seen the incredible image of the plane pursuing Cary Grant across a cornfield – it’s in film history. North by Northwest features one of old Hollywood’s most famous driving men, Cary Grant (think cool suits and simple appeal), in perhaps his best role.
This film has everything you could ever want: spies, a mixed-up personality, murder, sentiment, tipsy vehicle chases, and some extremely intriguing being a tease over extravagant mixed drinks on a train ride. Free Watch the Top 10 Old Hollywood movies Now on Yesmovies app.
6- Some Like it Hot (1959)
This remarkable dramatisation, set in 1929, follows two jazz musicians, Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon, who are forced to flee the crowd after witnessing a homicide. They disguise themselves as ladies and travel to Florida with an all-female jazz band led by Marilyn Monroe. Free Watch the Top 10 Old Hollywood movies Now on Yesmovies app.
Clearly, comedicness ensues, especially when Tony Curtis succumbs to Marilyn. This film, on the other hand, appears to be interesting and is worth a watch for one of Marilyn’s most well-known roles and presumably the best last line of any film ever made.
7- To Catch a Thief (1955)
You can’t stop thinking about all of the special times of the year? Allow this film to transport you to the 1950s French Riviera. Unbelievably bright, dazzling blue skies, sandy beaches, and opulent inns brimming with excellent tanned people doing tanned and delightful things.
There’s also a gem hoodlum to be had, and Cary Grant (yes, him again) needs to prove his innocence. In any case, we’re there for Grace Kelly’s closet and the desire for something new.
8- Goofy Face (1957)
Audrey Hepburn, Audrey Hepburn, Audrey Hepburn, Audrey Hepburn, Audrey Hepburn, Audrey Hepburn, Audrey Hepburn, Audrey Should we go on? Goofy Face is a sweet heartfelt melodic about design and the magazine industry in the 1950s. Set in Paris and New York, a shy, learned young lady (Hepburn) is chosen to become a top model and then falls victim to a sly photographic artist (Fred Astaire).
9- It Happened One Night (1934)
It Happened One Night may have been made between universal conflicts, but it has a new, current story that feels like it could have been shot yesterday. Clark Gable plays a columnist who falls for a ruined beneficiary (Claudette Colbert) on the run from her father while he’s extorting her for a specific story on her escape. It’s senseless, heartfelt, and intriguing – full of (super) old-school enchantment. It is one of Hollywood’s best old films.
10- Back Window(1954)
Feeling trapped inside during a lockdown? So does James Stewart in Back Door! His person, L.B. ‘Jeff’ Jefferies, has a broken leg and is exhausted in the house; he’s exhausted in the house. That is, until he witnesses what he believes to be a homicide from his window, and he and his sweetheart, an inconceivably beautiful (once more) Grace Kelly, set out to investigate.
